Destruction of Noah's People

هلاك قوم نوح

The destruction of Noah's people, a pivotal event recounted in the Quran, serves as a profound testament to the consequences of persistent disbelief and rejection of divine guidance. Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) tirelessly called his community to worship Allah alone for centuries, warning them of the dire outcomes if they continued their idolatry and transgression. Despite his persistent pleas, his people remained obstinate, even mocking his efforts and the signs of Allah. Ultimately, after enduring their rejection and hostility, Noah supplicated to Allah. In an act of divine justice, Allah commanded Noah to build an ark, saving him and the small group of believers who accompanied him. The rest of the disbelieving multitude was then swept away by a monumental flood that engulfed the earth, as [We drowned them, all together]. As the Quran states, [We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs]. This devastating event highlights Allah's ultimate sovereignty and justice, illustrating that while Allah is Merciful, He is also just in holding people accountable for their choices, especially their denial of His messengers and signs. Indeed, [We drowned the disbelievers]. It is a powerful reminder for humanity across generations to heed divine warnings and embrace faith.

Quran 13 verses

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ وَأَغْرَقْنَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَمِينَ

Fakazzaboohu fa anjai naahu wallazeena ma'ahoo fil fulki wa aghraqnal lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa; innahum kaanoo qawman 'ameen

But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.

مگر ان لوگوں نے ان کی تکذیب کی۔ تو ہم نے نوح کو اور جو ان کے ساتھ کشتی میں سوار تھے ان کو تو بچا لیا اور جن لوگوں نے ہماری آیتوں کو جھٹلایا تھا انہیں غرق کر دیا۔ کچھ شک نہیں کہ وہ اندھے لوگ تھے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn: But they denied him and so We delivered him and those with him from drowning in the Ark in the ship and We drowned those who denied Our signs by means of the Flood. Truly they were a people blind to the truth.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir (English): أَوَ عَجِبْتُمْ ("Do you wonder..."), do not wonder because of this. Surely, it is not strange that Allah sends down revelation to a man among you as mercy, kindness and compassion for you, so that he warns you that you may avoid Allah's torment by associating none with Him, وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُون...

وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَٰقَوْمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكُم مَّقَامِى وَتَذْكِيرِى بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ فَأَجْمِعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَكُمْ وَشُرَكَآءَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنْ أَمْرُكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ غُمَّةً ثُمَّ ٱقْضُوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

Watlu 'alaihim naba-a-Noohin iz qaala liqawmihee yaa qawmi in kaana kabura 'alaikum maqaamee wa tazkeeree bi Aayaatil laahi fa'alal laahi tawakkaltu fa ajmi'ooo amrakum wa shurakaaa'akum summa laa yakun amrukum 'alaikum ghummatan summmaq dooo ilaiya wa laa tunziroon

And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, "O my people, if my residence and my reminding of the signs of Allah has become burdensome upon you - then I have relied upon Allah. So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates. Then let not your plan be obscure to you. Then carry it out upon me and do not give me respite.

اور ان کو نوح کا قصہ پڑھ کر سنادو۔ جب انہوں نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ اے قوم! اگر تم کو میرا تم میں رہنا اور خدا کی آیتوں سے نصیحت کرنا ناگوار ہو تو میں خدا پر بھروسہ رکھتا ہوں۔ تم اپنے شریکوں کے ساتھ مل کر ایک کام (جو میرے بارے میں کرنا چاہو) مقرر کرلو اور وہ تمہاری تمام جماعت (کو معلوم ہوجائے اور کسی) سے پوشیدہ نہ رہے اور پھر وہ کام میرے حق میں کر گزرو اور مجھے مہلت نہ دو

And O my people, let not [your] dissension from me cause you to be struck by that similar to what struck the people of Noah or the people of Hud or the people of Salih. And the people of Lot are not from you far away.

اور اے قوم! میری مخالفت تم سے کوئی ایسا کام نہ کرادے کہ جیسی مصیبت نوح کی قوم یا ہود کی قوم یا صالح کی قوم پر واقع ہوئی تھی ویسی ہی مصیبت تم پر واقع ہو۔ اور لوط کی قوم (کا زمانہ تو) تم سے کچھ دور نہیں

And We saved him from the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a people of evil, so We drowned them, all together.

And the people of Noah - when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment.
