55:1Graph

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ

Ar Rahmaan

The Most Merciful

(خدا جو) نہایت مہربان

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

The Compassionate One God exalted be He

55:2Graph

عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

'Allamal Quran

Taught the Qur'an,

اسی نے قرآن کی تعلیم فرمائی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

has taught whomever He will the Qur’ān.

55:3Graph

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ

Khalaqal insaan

Created man,

اسی نے انسان کو پیدا کیا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

He created man the species mankind

55:4Graph

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ

'Allamalhul bayaan

[And] taught him eloquence.

اسی نے اس کو بولنا سکھایا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

teaching him the coherent speech utterance.

55:5Graph

ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ

Ashshamsu walqamaru bihusbaan

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,

سورج اور چاند ایک حساب مقرر سے چل رہے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

The sun and the moon follow a reckoning they move according to a strict calculation

55:6Graph

وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ

Wannajmu washshajaru yasjudan

And the stars and trees prostrate.

اور بوٹیاں اور درخت سجدہ کر رہے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and the grass all stalkless vegetation and the trees that vegetation which possesses stalk prostrate comply with what is required of them.

55:7Graph

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ

Wassamaaa'a rafa'ahaa wa wada'al Meezan

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

اور اسی نے آسمان کو بلند کیا اور ترازو قائم کی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And He has raised the heaven and set up the balance He has established justice

55:8Graph

أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ

Allaa tatghaw fil meezaan

That you not transgress within the balance.

کہ ترازو (سے تولنے) میں حد سے تجاوز نہ کرو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

declaring that you should not contravene that is to say so that you may not do wrong with regard to the balance that instrument with which one weighs.

55:9Graph

وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ

Wa aqeemul wazna bilqisti wa laa tukhsirul meezaan

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.

اور انصاف کے ساتھ ٹھیک تولو۔ اور تول کم مت کرو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And observe the weights with justice fairly and do not skimp the balance do not decrease the value of what is being weighed.

55:10Graph

وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ

Wal arda wada'ahaa lilanaame

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.

اور اسی نے خلقت کے لئے زمین بچھائی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And the earth He placed it He fixed it in place for all creatures man jinn and others.

55:11Graph

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ

Feehaa faakihatunw wan nakhlu zaatul akmaam

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

اس میں میوے اور کھجور کے درخت ہیں جن کے خوشوں پر غلاف ہوتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

In it are fruits and the familiar date-palms with sheaths the spathes containing its flowers

55:12Graph

وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ

Walhabbu zul 'asfi war Raihaanu

And grain having husks and scented plants.

اور اناج جس کے ساتھ بھس ہوتا ہے اور خوشبودار پھول

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and grain such as wheat and barley with husk and fragrant herb.

55:13Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو (اے گروہ جن وانس) تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours graces will you deny? tukadhdhibān is mentioned thirty one times; the interrogative is meant to be understood as an affirmative judging by what al-Hākim al-Naysābūrī reported by way of an isnād from Jābir b. ‘Abd Allāh al-Ansārī who said ‘The Messenger of God s was reciting surāt al-Rahmān to us and when he completed it he said “What is wrong with you that you have been silent throughout? Verily the jinn are more responsive than you. Not once did I recite this verse to them — So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny? — but that they said ‘Not one of your graces our Lord do we deny for all praise belongs to You’ ”.

55:14Graph

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ

Khalaqal insaana min salsaalin kalfakhkhaari

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.

اسی نے انسان کو ٹھیکرے کی طرح کھنکھناتی مٹی سے بنایا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

He created man Adam of dry clay salsāl a dry hollow mud producing an echo if tapped resembling the potter’s fakhkhār clay that has been baked

55:15Graph

وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ

Wa khalaqal jaaan mim maarijim min naar

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.

اور جنات کو آگ کے شعلے سے پیدا کیا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and He created the Jann the father of the jinn namely Iblīs of a smokeless flame of fire.

55:16Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:17Graph

رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ

Rabbul mashriqayni wa Rabbul maghribayni

[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.

وہی دونوں مشرقوں اور دونوں مغربوں کا مالک (ہے)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Lord of the two Easts the points of the winter sunrise and the summer sunrise and Lord of the two Wests likewise the two points of sunset.

55:18Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:19Graph

مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ

Marajal bahrayni yalta qiyaani

He released the two seas, meeting [side by side];

اسی نے دو دریا رواں کئے جو آپس میں ملتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

He has loosed the two waters the sweet and the salty; and so they meet in the perception of the eye.

55:20Graph

بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ

Bainahumaa barzakhul laa yabghiyaan

Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses.

دونوں میں ایک آڑ ہے کہ (اس سے) تجاوز نہیں کرسکتے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Between them there is a barrier by His power exalted be He. They do not overstep neither of the two encroaches upon the other to become mixed with it.

55:21Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:22Graph

يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا ٱللُّؤْلُؤُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ

Yakhruju minhumal lu 'lu u wal marjaanu

From both of them emerge pearl and coral.

دونوں دریاؤں سے موتی اور مونگے نکلتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

From both of them from the point at which they seem to meet — but which is actually from only one of the two and that is the salt water — is brought forth yukhraju passive may also be read as active yakhruju ‘emerge’ the pearl and the coral marjān these are red pieces of shell or small pearls.

55:23Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:24Graph

وَلَهُ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَٰمِ

Wa lahul jawaaril mun sha'aatu fil bahri kal a'laam

And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.

اور جہاز بھی اسی کے ہیں جو دریا میں پہاڑوں کی طرح اونچے کھڑے ہوتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

His are the crafted ships that sail in the sea appearing like landmarks like mountains in their tremendous size and height.

55:25Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:26Graph

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ

Kullu man 'alaihaa faan

Everyone upon the earth will perish,

جو (مخلوق) زمین پر ہے سب کو فنا ہونا ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Everyone who is on it that is on the earth of animal beings will perish man ‘who’ is used to indicate predominance of rational beings;

55:27Graph

وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ

Wa yabqaa wajhu rabbika zul jalaali wal ikraam

And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

اور تمہارے پروردگار ہی کی ذات (بابرکات) جو صاحب جلال وعظمت ہے باقی رہے گی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

yet there will remain the countenance of your Lord His Essence the countenance of majesty magnificence and munificence towards believers through His graces to them.

55:28Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:29Graph

يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِى شَأْنٍ

Yas'aluhoo man fissamaawaati walard; kulla ywmin huwa fee shaan

Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is bringing about a matter.

آسمان اور زمین میں جتنے لوگ ہیں سب اسی سے مانگتے ہیں۔ وہ ہر روز کام میں مصروف رہتا ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

All that is in the heavens and the earth implore Him either by way of speech or by their very state of dependence on Him for the strength which they require for worship for provision forgiveness and other things. Every day all the time He is upon some matter something that He manifests in accordance with what He has decreed since pre-eternity such as the giving of life the bringing of death exalting and abasing individuals giving abundantly and withholding responding to a supplicating person and giving the one requesting something and so on and so forth.

55:30Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:31Graph

سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ

Sanafrughu lakum ayyuhas saqalaan

We will attend to you, O prominent beings.

اے دونوں جماعتو! ہم عنقریب تمہاری طرف متوجہ ہوتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

We will attend to you We shall turn to reckon with you O you two heavy ones! mankind and jinn.

55:32Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:33Graph

يَٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَٰنٍ

Yaa ma'sharal jinni wal insi inis tata'tum an tanfuzoo min aqtaaris samaawaati wal ardi fanfuzoo; laa tanfuzoona illaa bisultaan

O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allah].

اے گروہِ جن وانس اگر تمہیں قدرت ہو کہ آسمان اور زمین کے کناروں سے نکل جاؤ تو نکل جاؤ۔ اور زور کے سوا تم نکل سکنے ہی کے نہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

O company of jinn and humans if you are able to pass through to exit from the confines the regions of the heavens and the earth then pass through! — a command meant to challenge them to what they are incapable of doing. You will not pass through except with a sanction except with some power and you have no power for such a thing.

55:34Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:35Graph

يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌ مِّن نَّارٍ وَنُحَاسٌ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ

Yursalu 'alaikumaa shuwaazum min naarifiw-wa nuhaasun falaa tantasiraan

There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not defend yourselves.

تم پر آگ کے شعلے اور دھواں چھوڑ دیا جائے گا تو پھر تم مقابلہ نہ کرسکو گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Against you will be unleashed a heat of fire shuwāz can either mean that the flame thereof has no smoke or that it does have it with it and a flash of brass without any flame and you will not be able to seek help you will not be able to defend yourselves against this nay it will drive you to the site of the Gathering.

55:36Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:37Graph

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةً كَٱلدِّهَانِ

Fa-izan shaqqatis samaaa'u fakaanat wardatan kaddihaan

And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose-colored like oil -

پھر جب آسمان پھٹ کر تیل کی تلچھٹ کی طرح گلابی ہوجائے گا (تو) وہ کیسا ہولناک دن ہوگا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And when the heaven is split open when it becomes open with many gates in preparation for the descent of the angels and it turns crimson wardatan literally ‘a rose’ in other words red like this rose like tanned leather red skins in contrast to its the heaven’s usual appearance the response to idhā ‘when’ is along the lines of fa-mā a‘zama’l-hawli ‘How great will be the terror then!’.

55:38Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:39Graph

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٌ وَلَا جَآنٌّ

Fa-yawma'izil laa yus'alu 'an zambiheee insunw wa laa jaann

Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.

اس روز نہ تو کسی انسان سے اس کے گناہوں کے بارے میں پرسش کی جائے گی اور نہ کسی جن سے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Thus on that day no man will be questioned about his sin nor any jinn about his sin; but they are questioned on some other occasion By your Lord We shall question them all Q.1592 al-jānn in this instance and in what will follow denotes the jinn and also in both cases al-ins denotes human beings.

55:40Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:41Graph

يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ

Yu'raful mujrimoona biseemaahum fa'yu'khazu binna waasi wal aqdaam

The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.

گنہگار اپنے چہرے ہی سے پہچان لئے جائیں گے تو پیشانی کے بالوں اور پاؤں سے پکڑ لئے جائیں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

The guilty will be recognised by their mark blackened faces and bruised eyes; so they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.

55:42Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:43Graph

هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

Haazihee jahannamul latee yukazzibu bihal mujrimoon

This is Hell, which the criminals deny.

یہی وہ جہنم ہے جسے گنہگار لوگ جھٹلاتے تھے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

‘This is Hell which the guilty were wont to deny!’

55:44Graph

يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٍ

Yatoofoona bainahaa wa baina hameemim aan

They will go around between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].

وہ دوزخ اور کھولتے ہوئے گرم پانی کے درمیان گھومتے پھریں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

They shall pass round they shall pace between it and boiling hot water water of extreme temperature which they are given to drink every time they call to be rescued from the heat of the Fire ānin is defective like qādin.

55:45Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:46Graph

وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ

Wa liman khaafa maqaama rabbihee jannataan

But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -

اور جو شخص اپنے پروردگار کے سامنے کھڑے ہونے سے ڈرا اس کے لئے دو باغ ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

But for those who feared that is for every one of them or for all of them together the station of their Lord the standing before Him for the Reckoning and therefore refrained from being disobedient to Him there will be two gardens.

55:47Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:48Graph

ذَوَاتَآ أَفْنَانٍ

Zawaataaa afnaan

Having [spreading] branches.

ان دونوں میں بہت سی شاخیں (یعنی قسم قسم کے میووں کے درخت ہیں)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Both with dhawātā the dual form of the regular form dhawāt with its lām its third consonant is changed into a yā’ abundant branches afnān is the plural of fanan similar in pattern to talal atlāl.

55:49Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:50Graph

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ تَجْرِيَانِ

Feehimaa 'aynaani tajriyaan

In both of them are two springs, flowing.

ان میں دو چشمے بہہ رہے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

In both of them there are two flowing springs.

55:51Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:52Graph

فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ زَوْجَانِ

Feehimaa min kulli faakihatin zawjaan

In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.

ان میں سب میوے دو دو قسم کے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

In both of them of every fruit fākiha of the fruits of this world — or it fākiha means all those things in which one delights yutafakkahu bihi — there are two kinds two varieties one juicy one dried and those which in this world are bitter like colocynth will be sweet therein.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

55:54Graph

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ وَجَنَى ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍ

Muttaki'eena 'alaa furushim bataaa'inuhaa min istabraq; wajanal jannataini daan

[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.

(اہل جنت) ایسے بچھونوں پر جن کے استرا طلس کے ہیں تکیہ لگائے ہوئے ہوں گے۔ اور دونوں باغوں کے میوے قریب (جھک رہے) ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

They will be reclining muttaki’īna is a circumstantial qualifier operated by an omitted verb that is to say yatana‘‘amūna they will enjoy bliss while reclining’ upon couches lined with heavy silk brocade istabraq thick or coarse silk the outer lining being of fine silk sundus. And the fruits of both gardens will be near so that it may be reached by the one standing up the one sitting down or the one lying down.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:56Graph

فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّ

Feehinna qaasiratut tarfi lam yatmishunna insun qablahum wa laa jaaann

In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinni -

ان میں نیچی نگاہ والی عورتیں ہیں جن کو اہل جنت سے پہلے نہ کسی انسان نے ہاتھ لگایا اور نہ کسی جن نے

In them in the two gardens and what they comprise of upper chambers and palaces are maidens of restrained glances restricting their eyes to those spouses of theirs from among either the men or the jinn who are reclining maidens who have not been touched who have not been deflowered — and these maidens are either houris or women of this world who will have been created anew by any man or jinn before them.

55:57Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:58Graph

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلْيَاقُوتُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ

ka annahunnal yaaqootu wal marjaan

As if they were rubies and coral.

گویا وہ یاقوت اور مرجان ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

It is as though they are rubies in their purity and pearls in their fairness.

55:59Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:60Graph

هَلْ جَزَآءُ ٱلْإِحْسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلْإِحْسَٰنُ

Hal jazaaa'ul ihsaani illal ihsaan

Is the reward for good [anything] but good?

نیکی کا بدلہ نیکی کے سوا کچھ نہیں ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Is the reward of goodness manifested through obedience anything but goodness? granted through bliss?

55:61Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:62Graph

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ

Wa min doonihimaa jannataan

And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -

اور ان باغوں کے علاوہ دو باغ اور ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And beside these two mentioned gardens there will be two other gardens in addition for those who feared the standing before their Lord.

55:63Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

55:64Graph

مُدْهَآمَّتَانِ

Mudhaaammataan

Dark green [in color].

دونوں خوب گہرے سبز

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Deep green mudhāmmatān this means that they are almost black on account of the intensity of their greenness.

55:65Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:66Graph

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ

Feehimaa 'aynaani nad daakhataan

In both of them are two springs, spouting.

ان میں دو چشمے ابل رہے ہیں

In both of them will be two gushing fountains rushing with water unceasing.

55:67Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:68Graph

فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَرُمَّانٌ

Feehimaa faakihatunw wa nakhlunw wa rummaan

In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.

ان میں میوے اور کھجوریں اور انار ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

In both of them will be fruits and date-palms and pomegranates the latter two fruits being from among these fruits of the two gardens; but it is also said that they belong to the fruits of some other garden.

55:69Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:70Graph

فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَٰتٌ حِسَانٌ

Feehinna khairaatun hisaan

In them are good and beautiful women -

ان میں نیک سیرت (اور) خوبصورت عورتیں ہیں

In them that is in the two gardens and their palaces and what they comprise are maidens who are good in nature and with beautiful faces.

55:71Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:72Graph

حُورٌ مَّقْصُورَٰتٌ فِى ٱلْخِيَامِ

Hoorum maqsooraatun fil khiyaam

Fair ones reserved in pavilions -

(وہ) حوریں (ہیں جو) خیموں میں مستور (ہیں)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Houris hur this means maidens with intense black eyes set against the intense whiteness of the iris secluded concealed in pavilions made of studded gems annexed to the palaces like boudoirs.

55:73Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:74Graph

لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّ

Lam yatmis hunna insun qablahum wa laa jaaann

Untouched before them by man or jinni -

ان کو اہل جنت سے پہلے نہ کسی انسان نے ہاتھ لگایا اور نہ کسی جن نے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Untouched by any man before them before these soon-to-be spouses of theirs or jinn.

55:75Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:76Graph

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ وَعَبْقَرِىٍّ حِسَانٍ

Muttaki'eena 'alaa rafratin khudrinw wa 'abqariyyin hisaan

Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.

سبز قالینوں اور نفیس مسندوں پر تکیہ لگائے بیٹھے ہوں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Reclining namely their spouses muttaki’īna syntactically it is as described above upon green cushions rafraf is the plural of rafrafa which can mean either ‘carpets’ or ‘cushions’ and lovely druggets ‘abqariyyin the plural of ‘abqariyya which are velvet carpets.

55:77Graph

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi ayyi aalaaa'i Rabbikumaa tukazzibaan.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

تو تم اپنے پروردگار کی کون کون سی نعمت کو جھٹلاؤ گے؟

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So which of your Lord’s favours will you deny?

55:78Graph

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِى ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ

Tabaarakasmu Rabbika Zil-Jalaali wal-Ikraam

Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

(اے محمدﷺ) تمہارا پروردگار جو صاحب جلال وعظمت ہے اس کا نام بڑا بابرکت ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Blessed be the Name of your Lord He of Majesty and Munificence as explained above; the word ism is extra.
