Tafsir al-Jalalayn

87:1Graph

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى

Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'laa

Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,

(اے پیغمبر) اپنے پروردگار جلیل الشان کے نام کی تسبیح کرو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Glorify the Name of your Lord that is exalt your Lord above what does not befit Him ism in isma rabbika ‘the Name of your Lord’ is extra the Most High an adjective qualifying rabbika ‘your Lord’

87:2Graph

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

Allazee khalaqa fasawwaa

Who created and proportioned

جس نے (انسان کو) بنایا پھر (اس کے اعضاء کو) درست کیا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Who created and proportioned His creature making it of well-proportioned parts without irregularities

87:3Graph

وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ

Wallazee qaddara fahadaa

And who destined and [then] guided

اور جس نے (اس کا) اندازہ ٹہرایا (پھر اس کو) رستہ بتایا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and Who determined what He wants and guided to what He had determined of good or evil

87:4Graph

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ

Wallazeee akhrajal mar'aa

And who brings out the pasture

اور جس نے چارہ اگایا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and Who brought forth the pasture Who caused herbage to grow

87:5Graph

فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ

Faja'alahoo ghusaaa'an ahwaa

And [then] makes it black stubble.

پھر اس کو سیاہ رنگ کا کوڑا کر دیا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

then made it after verdancy blackened stubble desiccated broken chaff.

87:6Graph

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ

Sanuqri'uka falaa tansaaa

We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,

ہم تمہیں پڑھا دیں گے کہ تم فراموش نہ کرو گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

We will have you recite the Qur’ān so that you will not forget what you recite

87:7Graph

إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ

Illaa maa shaaa'al laah; innahoo ya'lamul jahra wa maa yakhfaa

Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.

مگر جو خدا چاہے۔ وہ کھلی بات کو بھی جانتا ہے اور چھپی کو بھی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

except what God may will that you forget by abrogating its recitation and its ruling — the Prophet s used to recite aloud while Gabriel recited fearing to forget and so it is as though it was said to him ‘Do not hasten in it; you will not forget and so do not weary yourself by reciting it aloud’; assuredly He exalted be He knows what is overt of words and deeds and what is hidden of both of these.

87:8Graph

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ

Wa nu-yassiruka lilyusraa

And We will ease you toward ease.

ہم تم کو آسان طریقے کی توفیق دیں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And We will ease your way to the easy way the uncomplicated Law namely Islam.

87:9Graph

فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

Fazakkir in nafa'atizzikraa

So remind, if the reminder should benefit;

سو جہاں تک نصیحت (کے) نافع (ہونے کی امید) ہو نصیحت کرتے رہو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So remind admonish by the Qur’ān in case the reminder should be of benefit to the one whom you might remind the one mentioned in the following verse ‘he who fears will be reminded’ in other words even if it might not be of benefit for it is of benefit to some but of no benefit to others.

87:10Graph

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ

Sa yazzakkaru maiyakhshaa

He who fears [Allah] will be reminded.

جو خوف رکھتا ہے وہ تو نصیحت پکڑے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

He who fears God exalted be He will be reminded by it as in the verse So admonish by the Qur’ān him who fears My threat Q. 5045;

87:11Graph

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى

Wa yatajannabuhal ashqaa

But the wretched one will avoid it -

اور (بےخوف) بدبخت پہلو تہی کرے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

but the wretched one al-ashqā means al-shaqī that is to say the disbeliever will shun it that is the reminder in other words he will leave it aside not looking at it

87:12Graph

ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

Allazee yaslan Naaral kubraa

[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,

جو (قیامت کو) بڑی (تیز) آگ میں داخل ہو گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

he who will be roasted in the greater Fire the Fire of the Hereafter the lesser fire being that of this world;

87:13Graph

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ

Summa laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa

Neither dying therein nor living.

پھر وہاں نہ مرے گا اور نہ جئے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

then he will neither die therein and find rest nor live a enjoyable life.

87:14Graph

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Qad aflaha man tazakkaa

He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

بے شک وہ مراد کو پہنچ گیا جو پاک ہوا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Successful winner indeed is he who purifies himself who cleanses himself by means of his adherence to faith

87:15Graph

وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ

Wa zakaras ma Rabbihee fasallaa

And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.

اور اپنے پروردگار کے نام کا ذکر کرتا رہا اور نماز پڑھتا رہا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and mentions the Name of his Lord saying Allāhu akbar ‘God is Great’ and prays the five prayers — and such are the concerns of one working towards the Hereafter concerns which the Meccan disbelievers shun.

87:16Graph

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

Bal tu'siroonal hayaatad dunyaa

But you prefer the worldly life,

مگر تم لوگ تو دنیا کی زندگی کو اختیار کرتے ہو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Nay but you prefer or read yu’thirūna ‘they prefer’ the life of this world to the Hereafter

87:17Graph

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ

Wal Aakhiratu khairunw wa abqaa

While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

حالانکہ آخرت بہت بہتر اور پائندہ تر ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

whereas the Hereafter and the Paradise it entails is better and more lasting.

87:18Graph

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ

Inna haazaa lafis suhu fil oolaa

Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,

یہ بات پہلے صحیفوں میں (مرقوم) ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Truly this the success of those who purify themselves and the Hereafter being better is in the former scrolls the ones revealed before the Qur’ān

87:19Graph

صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ

Suhufi Ibraaheema wa Moosaa

The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.

(یعنی) ابراہیم اور موسیٰ کے صحیفوں میں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

the scrolls of Abraham and Moses the ten scrolls of Abraham and the Torah of Moses.
