Purification

Purification (التَّطْهِير) is a profound and cherished concept in Islam, encompassing both outward cleanliness and inward spiritual purity. It reflects Allah's loving intention to cleanse His servants from impurities, sins, and negative influences, enabling them to draw closer to Him. This divine desire for purity is evident in the Quran, where we learn that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent to [recite to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom], guiding believers towards a refined state of being through knowledge and practice. Purification can manifest in many forms, from the [rain sent down to purify you and remove from you the evil suggestions of Satan] to the challenges and [trials through which Allah may purify the believers]. Ultimately, true purification is a divine gift; it is [Allah who purifies whom He wills], rather than by one's own boastful claims. Striving for purity, both physically and spiritually, is thus a fundamental aspect of worship, fostering a state of readiness for prayer and a heart receptive to divine guidance, essential for spiritual growth and connection with the Creator.

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: The prayer of Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) for the Holy Prophet ﷺ Let us start by commenting on certain words which occur in this verse. The Arabic word Yatlu يَتْلُو (translated in English as "recite", or "read out" ) comes from the word Tilawah, (تلاوہ) which lexically signifies "to follow, to obey", but...

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: These verses conclude the discussion on the theme of the Qiblah قبلہ or religious orientation. And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allah purifies whom He wills, and injustice is not done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed].

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: The imperative: خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً : "Take out of their wealth a Sadaqah (obligatory alms) " in the second verse (103) has its background. O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity.
