Warning and Admonition

The concept of warning and admonition (إِنْذَار وَمَوْعِظَة) is a profound expression of divine mercy in Islam. Throughout history, God sent prophets with clear messages, not to condemn, but to lovingly warn their people about the consequences of heedlessness and deviation from divine guidance. This was an invitation to reflect, repent, and return to the straight path before it was too late. The Qur'an itself stands as the ultimate embodiment of this theme for humanity, a timeless source of both gentle counsel and serious caution. It is a sacred text that functions as [notification for the people that they may be warned thereby], urging them towards understanding the Oneness of God and reflecting on their purpose. God has indeed [diversified therein the warnings] so that hearts may be stirred to avoid sin and incline towards remembrance. It repeatedly conveys its messages, as it is stated, [We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the Qur'an that they might be reminded]. The aim is always for humanity to pause, consider, and recall their covenant with their Creator, living justly and ethically in all aspects, for [This has He instructed you that you may remember]. This theme underscores God's boundless compassion, offering every opportunity for spiritual awakening and guidance.

Quran 7 verses

Wa laa taqraboo maalal yateemi illaa billatee hiyaa ahsanu hattaa yablugha ashuddahoo wa awful kaila walmeezaana bilqisti laa nukallifu nafsan illaa wus'ahaa wa izaa qultum fa'diloo wa law kaana zaa qurbaa wa bi 'ahdil laahi awfoo; zaalikum wassaakum bihee la'allakum tazakkarron

And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you testify, be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allah fulfill. This has He instructed you that you may remember.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: Commentary Prior to the verses appearing above, for about two to three sections, the recurring theme has been how heedless and ignorant human beings had bypassed the law revealed by the Law Giver and the Creator of whatever there is in the heavens and the earth and, in its place, had taken ancestral...
Tafsir al-Jalalayn: And that you do not approach the property of the orphan save with that approach which is fairer namely the one wherein lie his best interests until he is of age when he is sexually mature.

Haaza balaaghul linnaasi wa liyunzaroo bihee wa liya'lamooo annamaa Huwa Illaahunw Waahidunw wa liyaz zakkara ulul albaab

This [Qur'an] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: In the verses which appear onwards from here (48-51), the text re-turns to the awe-inspiring happenings of the day of Qiyamah. It is said: يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْ‌ضُ غَيْرَ‌ الْأَرْ‌ضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ ۖ وَبَرَ‌زُوا لِلَّـهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ‌ The day on which this earth will be turned into som...

And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.
