Divine Decree and Destiny (القضاء والقدر), in Islam, represents the profound belief that everything in existence, from the grandest cosmic events to the smallest leaf falling, unfolds according to Allah’s eternal knowledge and precise plan. It teaches us that [indeed, Allah is knowing of all things], and that [all things We created with a measure]. This concept fosters a deep sense of reliance on Allah, acknowledging His ultimate sovereignty and wisdom in shaping creation. However, this belief does not negate human free will or responsibility. Muslims understand that while Allah has decreed outcomes, He has also granted humanity the ability to choose between right and wrong, to strive, and to make efforts. This balance means that individuals are accountable for their choices and actions, as highlighted by verses that speak of recompense for deeds, such as [whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it]. Embracing القضاء والقدر encourages patience in adversity, gratitude in prosperity, and continuous effort in seeking Allah's pleasure, knowing that [Allah does what He wills] while still holding us responsible for our striving.
