Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil

الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر

Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil (الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر) is a profound and foundational principle in Islam, representing the collective and individual responsibility of the Muslim community to promote righteousness and prevent wrongdoing. It's a call to actively nurture a just, compassionate, and moral society, reflecting a deeply held belief that faith extends beyond personal devotion to shaping a better world. The Quran highlights this duty as a hallmark of the Muslim identity, describing those who embody it as [a nation inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong], and promising that [those will be the successful]. This commitment is further emphasized when Allah states, [You are the best nation produced for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah]. It encourages Muslims to be proactive agents of positive change, whether through kindly advice, setting good examples, or advocating for justice. This beautiful injunction reminds us that our faith calls us to strive for the well-being of all, by [enjoining charity or that which is right or conciliation between people], fostering an ethical environment for everyone.

Quran 20 verses

Innal lazeena yakfuroona bi Aayaatil laahi wa yaqtuloonan Nabiyyeena bighairi haqqinw wa yaqtuloonal lazeena yaamuroona bilqisti minannaasi fabashirhum bi'azaabin aleem

Those who disbelieve in the signs of Allah and kill the prophets without right and kill those who order justice from among the people - give them tidings of a painful punishment.

Narrated Shaqiq:I heard Hudhaifa saying, "While we were sitting with `Umar, he said, 'Who among you remembers the statement of the Prophet (ﷺ) about the afflictions?' Hudhaifa said, "The affliction of a man in his family, his property, his children and his neighbors are expiated by his prayers, Zakat (and alms) and enjoining good and forbidding evil." `Umar said, "I do not ask you about these afflictions, but about those afflictions which will move like the waves of the sea." Hudhaifa said, "Don't worry about it, O chief of the believers, for there is a closed door between you and them." `Umar said, "Will that door be broken or opened?" I said, "No. it will be broken." `Umar said, "Then it will never be closed," I said, "Yes." We asked Hudhaifa, "Did `Umar know what that door meant?" He replied, "Yes, as I know that there will be night before tomorrow morning, that is because I narrated to him a true narration free from errors." We dared not ask Hudhaifa as to whom the door represented so we ordered Masruq to ask him what does the door stand for? He replied, "`Umar
