Anger of Allah

غَضَبُ اللَّه

The Anger of Allah (غَضَبُ اللَّه) is a profound concept in Islam, signifying divine displeasure and wrath that arises from human actions conflicting with Allah's commands and wisdom. It is not an emotion akin to human anger, but rather a just consequence manifesting Allah's absolute power and discernment. This divine anger often befalls those who knowingly disbelieve in Allah's signs, break sacred covenants, or commit grave sins. Muslims often pray to be among [those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger]. The Quran frequently describes it as a direct outcome of persistent disobedience and transgression. For instance, the Children of Israel were said to have [returned with anger from Allah [upon them]] due to their repeated disbelief and slaying of prophets. Furthermore, Allah's anger is explicitly mentioned as a severe recompense for heinous acts, such as [whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him]. This concept serves as a powerful reminder for believers to constantly strive for righteousness, sincerity, and obedience, seeking Allah's pleasure rather than incurring [wrath upon wrath] through rebellion or disbelief. It underscores the ultimate justice of the Divine, where every action has its commensurate spiritual consequence.

Quran 18 verses

صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

Siraatal-lazeena an'amta 'alaihim ghayril-maghdoobi 'alaihim wa lad-daaalleen

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

ان لوگوں کے رستے جن پر تو اپنا فضل وکرم کرتا رہا نہ ان کے جن پر غصے ہوتا رہا اور نہ گمراہوں کے

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: Which 'path' is 'straight'? Now, to come to the meaning of the 'straight path', it is the path which has no turns and twists. And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions." [Moses] said, "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked." And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing.

How wretched is that for which they sold themselves - that they would disbelieve in what Allah has revealed through [their] outrage that Allah would send down His favor upon whom He wills from among His servants. So they returned having [earned] wrath upon wrath. And for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

They have been put under humiliation [by Allah] wherever they are overtaken, except for a covenant from Allah and a rope from the Muslims. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.

Abu Qatada reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said:How do you fast? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) felt annoyed. When 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) noticed his annoyance, he said: We are well pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our code of life, and with Muhammad as our Prophet. We seek refuge with Allah from the anger of Allah and that of His Messenger. 'Umar kept on repeating these words till his (the Prophet's) anger calmed down. Then Umar said: Messenger of Allah, what is the position of one who fasts perpetually? He (ﷺ) said: He neither fasted nor broke it, or he said: He did not fast and he did not break it. 'Umar said: What about him who fasts for two days and does not fast one day? He (ﷺ) said: Is anyone capable of doing that? He ('Umar) said: What is the position of him who fasts for a day and doesn't fast on the other day? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: That is the fast of David (peace be upon him). He ('Umar) said: What about him who fasts one day and doesn't fast for two days. Thereupon he (the Messenger of Allah) said: I wish I were given the strength to do that. Thereafter he (ﷺ) said: Fasting three days every month and that of Ramadan every year is a perpetual fasting. I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of 'Arafa may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming years, and I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year
