Zechariah

Zechariah (Zakariyya in Arabic) is a revered prophet in Islam, a figure of deep piety and unwavering faith. He was chosen by Allah to be the guardian of Maryam (Mary), mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus), and marvelled at the miraculous provisions she received from Allah [3:37]. Despite his advanced age and his wife's barrenness, Zechariah earnestly turned to his Lord, praying for a righteous heir [3:38]. This sincere supplication, offered in a time of profound hope against human limitations, beautifully illustrates his trust in Allah's boundless power. His prayer was answered miraculously when angels gave him tidings of a son, John (Yahya), who would be noble and a prophet [3:39]. Zechariah, in his human understanding, questioned how this could be, given their circumstances, to which he was assured, "Such is Allah; He does what He wills" [3:40]. His story remains a powerful testament to the miraculous nature of creation and the profound impact of sincere prayer, reminding us that with Allah, nothing is impossible.

So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, "O Mary, from where is this [coming] to you?" She said, "It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account."

While looking at the first sentence of this verse هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِ‌يَّا رَ‌بَّهُ (Thereupon, Zakariyya (علیہ السلام) prayed to his Lord) - we should bear in mind that Sayyidna Zakariyya (علیہ السلام) had no offspring upto that time. Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: Commentary 1. The expression, کَلِمَۃ اللہ 'a word of Allah' refers to Sayyidna 'Isa (علیہ السلام) . Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: نِدَاءً خَفِيًّا (a low voice - 19:3) tells us that it is better to beseech Allah in supplication in undertone.
