Prophet's Fatal Illness

The Prophet's fatal illness refers to the period of sickness that preceded the passing of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Medina, in the 11th year of the Hijra. This deeply poignant time, lasting approximately two weeks, is meticulously documented in Islamic tradition, offering a profound glimpse into the final days of Allah's last messenger. Despite his weakening health, the Prophet continued to lead the congregational prayers for as long as he could, and when unable, he designated Abu Bakr to lead, emphasizing the ongoing importance of prayer for the Muslim community. During this period, he imparted final wisdom and advice to his companions, stressing principles of justice, devotion to Allah, and unity among Muslims. His eventual passing was a monumental event, confirming the truth that [every soul shall taste death], and serving as a powerful reminder that [Muhammad is no more than a messenger]. It marked the completion of his prophetic mission and the full establishment of Islam, a religion that Allah had declared [this day I have perfected for you your religion] shortly before his demise. This period remains a source of deep reflection and guidance for Muslims worldwide, highlighting the human aspect of the Prophet while affirming the eternal nature of his message.

Hadith 1 tradition

Sahih al-Bukhari 76:50sahih

Narrated `Aisha:During the Prophet's fatal illness, he used to recite the Mu'auwidhat (Surat An-Nas and Surat Al- Falaq) and then blow his breath over his body. When his illness was aggravated, I used to recite those two Suras and blow my breath over him and make him rub his body with his own hand for its blessings." (Ma`mar asked Az-Zuhri: How did the Prophet (ﷺ) use to blow? Az-Zuhri said: He used to blow on his hands and then passed them over his face
