Earthquake of Madyan
رجفة مدين
The Earthquake of Madyan (رجفة مدين) recounts a profound event detailed in the Quran, illustrating the divine consequence that befell the ancient people of Madyan. Located east of the Red Sea, this community was known for its trade but also for corrupt practices like short-changing and defrauding. Allah sent Prophet Shu'ayb to them, urging them to [worship Allah, fulfill the measure and weight, and not deprive people of their due], and to abandon their widespread corruption. Despite his earnest pleas, the people of Madyan largely rejected his warnings, mocked him, and continued their injustices. Consequently, a devastating divine punishment struck them. The Quran describes how [the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone], and similarly in another verse, [the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone]. This sudden and terrifying calamity transformed their homes into tombs, leaving them motionless. The event serves as a powerful and enduring reminder in Islamic tradition of Allah's justice, underscoring the severe repercussions of persistent denial of divine guidance and the importance of upholding truthfulness and fair dealings.
Quran 1 verse
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
Fakazzaboohu fa akhazat humur rajfatu fa asbahoo fee daarihim jaasimeen
But they denied him, so the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
مگر اُنہوں نے اُن کو جھوٹا سمجھا سو اُن کو زلزلے (کے عذاب) نے آپکڑا اور وہ اپنے گھروں میں اوندھے پڑے رہ گئے
