Piety of Hearts

تَقْوَى الْقُلُوب

"Piety of Hearts" (تَقْوَى الْقُلُوب), or *taqwa al-qulub*, points to a profound inner state of God-consciousness and devotion that resides deep within the human heart. It is far more than mere outward actions; it is the sincerity, awareness, and reverence that underpins every deed and intention. This concept emphasizes that true piety stems from a heart attuned to Allah, recognizing His presence, power, and mercy in every aspect of life. It’s a state where the heart trembles with awareness [their hearts tremble with fear] at the mention of Allah, fostering a deep sense of responsibility and love. The Quran teaches that honoring Allah's symbols and commands is a manifestation of this profound inner state [it is from the piety of hearts]. This means that external acts of worship or good deeds gain their true value and acceptance when performed with a heart full of *taqwa*. Ultimately, Allah looks at the sincerity and condition of our hearts, not just our outward appearances. It is this inner quality that truly elevates an individual in His sight, for [the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you]. Cultivating *taqwa al-qulub* is therefore central to achieving spiritual excellence and a deeper connection with the Divine.

Quran 1 verse

ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى ٱلْقُلُوبِ

Zaalika wa mai yu'azzim sha'aaa'iral laahi fa innahaa min taqwal quloob

That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.

(یہ ہمارا حکم ہے) اور جو شخص ادب کی چیزوں کی جو خدا نے مقرر کی ہیں عظمت رکھے تو یہ (فعل) دلوں کی پرہیزگاری میں سے ہے
