فَاحِشَة
The concept of *Fahisha* (فَاحِشَة) in Islam refers to acts of grave indecency and immorality, primarily unlawful sexual intercourse such as adultery and fornication. The Quran makes it clear that [Allah has forbidden immoralities, both apparent and concealed], guiding humanity towards a path of righteousness and moral integrity. Prophets throughout history, like Lot, condemned their people for such transgressions, asking, [Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?], highlighting the clear nature of these wrongs. The prohibition of *Fahisha* is thus a safeguard, designed to protect individuals, relationships, and the moral fabric of society, fostering an environment of respect and chastity.
Quran 5 verses
وَٱلَّٰتِى يَأْتِينَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنكُمْ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىٰ يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ ٱلْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا
Wallaatee yaateenal faahishata min nisaaa'ikum fastashhidoo 'alaihinna arba'atam minkum fa in shahidoo fa amsikoohunna fil buyooti hatta yatawaffaa hunnal mawtu aw yaj'alal laahu lahunna sabeelaa
Those who commit unlawful sexual intercourse of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify, confine the guilty women to houses until death takes them or Allah ordains for them [another] way.
مسلمانو تمہاری عورتوں میں جو بدکاری کا ارتکاب کر بیٹھیں ان پر اپنے لوگوں میں سے چار شخصوں کی شہادت لو۔ اگر وہ (ان کی بدکاری کی) گواہی دیں تو ان عورتوں کو گھروں میں بند رکھو یہاں تک کہ موت ان کا کام تمام کردے یا خدا ان کے لئے کوئی اور سبیل (پیدا) کرے
Commentary
وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَٰحِشَةً قَالُوا۟ وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَآ ءَابَآءَنَا وَٱللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَا قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Wa izaa fa'aloo faahishatan qaaloo wajadnaa 'alaihaaa aabaaa'ana wallaahu amaranaa bihaa; qul innal laaha laa yaamuru bilfahshaaa'i a-taqooloona 'alal laahi mmaa laa ta'lamoon
And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?"
اور جب کوئی بے حیائی کا کام کرتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے اپنے بزرگوں کو اسی طرح کرتے دیکھا ہے اور خدا نے بھی ہم کو یہی حکم دیا ہے۔ کہہ دو خدا بےحیائی کے کام کرنے کا ہرگز حکم نہیں دیتا۔ بھلا تم خدا کی نسبت ایسی بات کیوں کہتے ہو جس کا تمہیں علم نہیں
Commentary
قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلْإِثْمَ وَٱلْبَغْىَ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَأَن تُشْرِكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَٰنًا وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Qul innamaa harrama Rabbiyal fawaahisha maa zahara minhaa wa maa bataa wal isma walbaghya bighairil haqqi wa an tushrikoo billaahi maa lam yunazzil bihee sultaananw wa an taqooloo 'alal laahi maa laa ta'lamoon
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know."
کہہ دو کہ میرے پروردگار نے تو بےحیائی کی باتوں کو ظاہر ہوں یا پوشیدہ اور گناہ کو اور ناحق زیادتی کرنے کو حرام کیا ہے۔ اور اس کو بھی کہ تم کسی کو خدا کا شریک بناؤ جس کی اس نے کوئی سند نازل نہیں کی اور اس کو بھی کہ خدا کے بارے میں ایسی باتیں کہو جن کا تمہیں کچھ علم نہیں
Commentary
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ
Wa lootan iz qaala liqawmiheee ataatoonal faa hishata wa antum qawmun tajjhaloon
And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?
اور لوط کو (یاد کرو) جب انہوں نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ تم بےحیائی (کے کام) کیوں کرتے ہو اور تم دیکھتے ہو
Commentary
أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَآءِ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ
A'innakum lataatoonar rijaala shahwatam min doonin nisaaa'; bal antum qawmun tajhaloon
Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly."
کیا تم عورتوں کو چھوڑ کر (لذت حاصل کرنے) کے لئے مردوں کی طرف مائل ہوتے ہو۔ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ تم احمق لوگ ہو
