Divine Forgiveness

Divine Forgiveness, known as *Maghfirah* (مَغْفِرَة) in Arabic, is a cornerstone of the Islamic faith, representing Allah's boundless mercy and willingness to pardon His servants' sins. It is a profound expression of hope, assuring believers that despite their human fallibility, the door to redemption remains open. The Quran frequently describes Allah with attributes like *Al-Ghaffar* (The Oft-Forgiving) and *Ar-Rahim* (The Especially Merciful), highlighting His immense compassion and readiness to forgive. This divine pardon is often granted to those who turn to Allah with sincere repentance (*Tawbah*), recognizing their wrongs and seeking to amend their ways. As Allah says, [do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful]. Forgiveness also extends to those [who believe in Allah and His messengers and do not discriminate between any of them], emphasizing faith and unity as paths to divine favor. While the Quran warns that Allah [will never forgive those who disbelieve and commit wrong] without repentance, the overarching message is one of divine clemency, encouraging believers to constantly seek His grace and strive for righteousness, ever seeking a return to Allah's [straight path].

Quran 2 verses

Wallazeena aamanoo billaahi wa Rusulihee wa lam yufarriqoo baina ahadim minhum ulaaa'ika sawfa yu'teehim ujoorahum; wa kaanal laahu Ghafoorar Raheema

But they who believe in Allah and His messengers and do not discriminate between any of them - to those He is going to give their rewards. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: In the concluding verse (15:22), it has been reaffirmed that salvation in the Hereafter is the lot of those who believe in Him and in all of His prophets as well. Tafsir al-Jalalayn: And those who believe in God and all of His messengers and do not seek to divide between any of them those — We shall surely give them nu’tīhim also read yu’tīhim ‘He shall surely give them’ their wages the reward for their deeds. God is ever Forgiving to His friends Merciful to those who obey Him.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir (English): Believing in Some Prophets and Rejecting Others is Pure Kufr Allah threatens those who disbelieve in Him and in His Messengers, such as the Jews and Christians, who differentiate between Allah and His Messengers regarding faith. They believe in some Prophets and reject others, following their desire...

Innal lazeenakafaroo wa zalamoo lam yakkunillaahu liyaghfira lahum wa laa liyahdiyahum tareeqaa

Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrong [or injustice] - never will Allah forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: Then comes verse رُّ‌سُلًا مُّبَشِّرِ‌ينَ وَمُنذِرِ‌ينَ (-- Messengers giving good tidings and warning...) which succinctly tells that Almighty Allah consistently sent messengers to convey good tidings to all believers and to warn all disbelievers so that there remains no room for the excuse that th...
Tafsir al-Jalalayn: Surely those who disbelieve in God and who have done wrong to the Prophet by concealing his descriptions it is not for God to forgive them neither to guide them to any path whatever
(Verily, We have inspired you...) emphasized the Prophet's prophethood and refuted the idolators and People of the Scripture who denied him.
