اللَّاتَ
Al-Lat (اللَّاتَ) stands as a poignant symbol of the pre-Islamic religious landscape in Arabia, particularly revered by tribes in places like Ta'if. Before the revelation of the Quran, she was worshipped as a powerful goddess, one of several female deities whose intercession people sought, often believing they could [bring them nearer to Allah]. The advent of Islam, however, brought a clear and unequivocal rejection of such practices. The Quran directly addresses the veneration of Al-Lat and other idols, prompting believers to [consider al-Lat and al-'Uzza]. It challenges the very notion of their divinity, noting that these are [but names which you have named], mere human inventions lacking any true power. This divine revelation also questions the paradoxical idea prevalent among idolaters who would attribute "daughters" to God while preferring sons for themselves, asking pointedly: [Is it for you the male, and for Him the female? That, then, would be an unjust division!]. The Islamic message fundamentally refutes the existence of any partners or associates with Allah, establishing the absolute oneness of God (Tawhid) as the core tenet of faith. The rejection of Al-Lat and all forms of idol worship was thus a foundational step in transforming ancient Arab society towards pure monotheism.
Quran 1 verse
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
Afara'aytumul laata wal 'uzzaa
So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza?

Hadith 3 traditions
حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَنْ حَلَفَ مِنْكُمْ فَقَالَ فِي حَلِفِهِ بِاللاَّتِ وَالْعُزَّى. فَلْيَقُلْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ. وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ، فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ ".
Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "Whoever amongst you swears, (saying by error) in his oath 'By Al-Lat and Al- Uzza', then he should say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' And whoever says to his companions, 'Come let me gamble' with you, then he must give something in charity (as an expiation for such a sin)." (See Hadith No)
مجھ سے اسحاق بن راہویہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو ابوالمغیرہ نے خبر دی، کہا ہم سے امام اوزاعی نے بیان کیا انہوں نے کہا ہم سے زہری نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے حمید بن عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف نے، انہوں نے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”تم میں سے جس نے لات، عزیٰ کی ( یا دوسرے بتوں کی ) قسم کھائی تو اسے «لا إله إلا الله.» پڑھنا چاہیئے اور جس نے اپنے ساتھی سے کہا کہ آؤ جوا کھیلیں تو اسے بطور کفارہ صدقہ دینا چاہیئے۔“
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَنْ حَلَفَ مِنْكُمْ فَقَالَ فِي حَلِفِهِ بِاللاَّتِ وَالْعُزَّى. فَلْيَقُلْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ. وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ. فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ ".

ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقیل نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھے حمید بن عبدالرحمٰن نے بیان کیا اور ان سے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”تم میں سے جس نے قسم کھائی اور کہا کہ لات و عزیٰ کی قسم، تو پھر وہ «لا إله إلا الله» کہے اور جس نے اپنے ساتھی سے کہا کہ آؤ جوا کھیلیں تو اسے صدقہ کر دینا چاہئے۔“
حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَنْ حَلَفَ فَقَالَ فِي حَلِفِهِ بِاللاَّتِ وَالْعُزَّى. فَلْيَقُلْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ. وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ. فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ ".

مجھ سے عبداللہ بن محمد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے ہشام بن یوسف نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو معمر نے خبر دی، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے زہری نے بیان کیا، انہیں حمید بن عبدالرحمٰن نے اور ان سے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”جس نے قسم کھائی اور کہا کہ ”لات و عزیٰ کی قسم“ تو اسے پھر کلمہ «لا إله إلا الله» کہہ لینا چاہئے اور جو شخص اپنے ساتھی سے کہے کہ آؤ جوا کھیلیں تو اسے چاہئے کہ ( اس کے کفارہ میں ) صدقہ کرے۔
