44:1Graph

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ حمٓ

Haa Meeem

Ha, Meem.

حٰم

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Hā mīm God knows best what He means by these letters.

44:2Graph

وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

Wal Kitaabil Mubeen

By the clear Book,

اس کتاب روشن کی قسم

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

By the Book the Qur’ān that clarifies the one that distinguishes what is lawful from what is unlawful.

44:3Graph

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ

Innaaa anzalnaahu fee lailatim mubaarakah; innaa kunnaa munzireen

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].

کہ ہم نے اس کو مبارک رات میں نازل فرمایا ہم تو رستہ دکھانے والے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Indeed We revealed it on a blessed night the Night of Ordainment laylat al-qadr or the eve of the middle of Sha‘bān in which it was revealed from the Mother Book from the seventh heaven to the heaven of this world. Indeed We have been warning We have been causing people by it to have fear of God.

44:4Graph

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ

Feehaa yufraqu kullu amrin hakeem

On that night is made distinct every precise matter -

اسی رات میں تمام حکمت کے کام فیصل کئے جاتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

In it that is to say on the Night of Ordainment or on the eve of the middle of Sha‘bān every definitive matter that has been fixed with regard to the provisions and the terms of life and other things decreed by God for the entire year until that same night again the following year is distinguished is decided.

44:5Graph

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ

Amram min 'indinaaa; innaa kunnaa mursileen

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

(یعنی) ہمارے ہاں سے حکم ہو کر۔ بےشک ہم ہی (پیغمبر کو) بھیجتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

As an ordinance a distinguishing from Us. Indeed We have been sending from your Lord messengers such as Muhammad (s) and those before him

44:6Graph

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

Rahmatam mir rabbik; innahoo Huwas Samee'ul 'Aleem

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

(یہ) تمہارے پروردگار کی رحمت ہے۔ وہ تو سننے والا جاننے والا ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

as a mercy out of compassion for those to whom these messengers have been sent. Surely He is the Hearer of their sayings the Knower of their actions.

44:7Graph

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ

Rabbis samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa; in kuntum mooqineen

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain.

آسمانوں اور زمین کا اور جو کچھ ان دونوں میں ہے سب کا مالک۔ بشرطیکہ تم لوگ یقین کرنے والے ہو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them read rabbu’l-samāwāti in the nominative to understand it as a third predicate; or read rabbi’l-samāwāti as a substitution for rabbika ‘your Lord’ if you should be certain O people of Mecca that God exalted be He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth then also be certain that Muhammad (s) is His Messenger.

44:8Graph

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa yuhyee wa yumeetu Rabbukum wa Rabbu aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.

اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ (وہی) جِلاتا ہے اور (وہی) مارتا ہے۔ وہی تمہارا اور تمہارے باپ دادا کا پروردگار ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

There is no god except Him. He gives life and brings death. Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.

44:9Graph

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ

Bal hum fee shakkiny yal'aboon

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

لیکن یہ لوگ شک میں کھیل رہے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Nay but they linger in doubt concerning the Resurrection playing in mockery of you O Muhammad (s) and so he said ‘My God assist me against them with seven years of drought like the seven of Joseph’.

44:10Graph

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ

Fartaqib Yawma taatis samaaa'u bidukhaanim mubeen

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke.

تو اس دن کا انتظار کرو کہ آسمان سے صریح دھواں نکلے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

God exalted be He says So watch out for the day when the heaven will produce a visible smoke. Thus the earth became barren and famine became so severe that they began to see what looked like smoke rising between the heaven and the earth

44:11Graph

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Yaghshan naasa haazaa 'azaabun aleem

Covering the people; this is a painful torment.

جو لوگوں پر چھا جائے گا۔ یہ درد دینے والا عذاب ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

that will envelop the people and so they said ‘This is a painful chastisement!

44:12Graph

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ

Rabbanak shif 'annal 'azaaba innaa mu'minoon

[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers."

اے پروردگار ہم سے اس عذاب کو دور کر ہم ایمان لاتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Our Lord relieve us from the chastisement; indeed we have believed’ we have now affirmed the sincerity of Your Prophet.

44:13Graph

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ

Annaa lahumuz zikraa wa qad jaaa'ahum Rasoolum mubeen

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger.

(اس وقت) ان کو نصیحت کہاں مفید ہوگی جب کہ ان کے پاس پیغمبر آچکے جو کھول کھول کر بیان کر دیتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

God exalted be He says How can there be a reminder for them that is to say faith will not benefit them once the chastisement has been sent down when already there has come to them a manifest Messenger whose Message is plain to understand

44:14Graph

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ

Summaa tawallaw 'anhu wa qaaloo mu'allamum majnoon

Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman."

پھر انہوں نے ان سے منہ پھیر لیا اور کہنے لگے (یہ تو) پڑھایا ہوا (اور) دیوانہ ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

but they turned away from him and said ‘He has been taught — that is a human being is teaching him the Qur’ān — he is a madman!’

44:15Graph

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ

Innaa kaashiful 'azaabi qaleelaa; innakum 'aaa'indoon

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief].

ہم تو تھوڑے دنوں عذاب ٹال دیتے ہیں (مگر) تم پھر کفر کرنے لگتے ہو

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

‘Indeed We will remove the chastisement the famine from you for a little time; and so it was removed from them. But you will indeed revert!’ to your disbelief — and they did.

44:16Graph

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ

Yawma nabtishul batsha tal kubraa innaa muntaqimoon

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.

جس دن ہم بڑی سخت پکڑ پکڑیں گے تو بےشک انتقام لے کر چھوڑیں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Mention the day when We shall assault with the most mighty assault — this was the day of the battle of Badr — then indeed We shall take vengeance on them al-batsh means ‘to seize violently’.

44:17Graph

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ

Wa laqad fatannaa qablahum qawma Fir'awna wa jaaa'ahum Rasoolun kareem

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger,

اور ان سے پہلے ہم نے قوم فرعون کی آزمائش کی اور ان کے پاس ایک عالی قدر پیغمبر آئے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And certainly We tried We tested before them the people of Pharaoh together with him when a messenger came to them namely Moses peace be upon him who was honoured before God exalted be He

44:18Graph

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

An addooo ilaiya 'ibaadal laahi innee lakum Rasoolun ameen

[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,"

(جنہوں نے) یہ (کہا) کہ خدا کے بندوں (یعنی بنی اسرائیل) کو میرے حوالے کردو میں تمہارا امانت دار پیغمبر ہوں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

saying ‘Give over to me what I summon you to in the way of faith that is manifest your faith to me O servants of God; indeed I am for you a messenger who is faithful’ in what he has been sent with

44:19Graph

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

Wa al laa ta'loo 'alal laahi innee aateekum bisultaanim mubeen

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority.

اور خدا کے سامنے سرکشی نہ کرو۔ میں تمہارے پاس کھلی دلیل لے کر آیا ہوں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and ‘Do not rebel do not try to act strong against God by neglecting obedience to Him. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant’ clear proof of the sincerity of my Mission — but they threatened to stone him to death.

44:20Graph

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ

Wa innee 'uztu bi Rabbee wa rabbikum an tarjumoon

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

اور اس (بات) سے کہ تم مجھے سنگسار کرو اپنے اور تمہارے پروردگار کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So he said ‘And truly I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest you should stone me to death with rocks.

44:21Graph

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ

Wa il lam tu'minoo lee fa'taziloon

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."

اور اگر تم مجھ پر ایمان نہیں لاتے تو مجھ سے الگ ہو جاؤ

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And if you do not believe me then stay away from me’ that is then refrain from harming me — but they did not refrain from such action.

44:22Graph

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ

Fada'aa rabbahooo anna haaa'ulaaa'i qawmum mujrimoon

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

تب موسیٰ نے اپنے پروردگار سے دعا کی کہ یہ نافرمان لوگ ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So he called to his Lord saying ‘These are indeed a guilty an idolatrous lot!’

44:23Graph

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ

Fa asri bi'ibaadee lailan innakum muttaba'oon

[Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

(خدا نے فرمایا کہ) میرے بندوں کو راتوں رات لے کر چلے جاؤ اور (فرعونی) ضرور تمہارا تعاقب کریں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

God exalted be He said ‘Then set out read fa-asri or fa’sri with My servants the Children of Israel by night; for you will assuredly be pursued surely Pharaoh and his people will pursue you.

44:24Graph

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ

Watrukil bahra rahwan innahum jundum mughraqoon

And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."

اور دریا سے (کہ) خشک (ہو رہا ہوگا) پار ہو جاؤ (تمہارے بعد) ان کا تمام لشکر ڈبو دیا جائے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And leave the sea behind once you and your companions have crossed it at rest still and calm until the Egyptians enter it indeed they will be a drowned host’ — he Moses was reassured by this statement — and they were indeed drowned.

44:25Graph

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Kam tarakoo min jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

وہ لوگ بہت سے باغ اور چشمے چھوڑ گئے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

How many gardens orchards and flowing fountains did they leave behind

44:26Graph

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ

Wa zuroo'inw wa maqaa min kareem

And crops and noble sites

اور کھیتیاں اور نفیس مکان

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

as well as sown fields and many a glorious residence many a splendid court

44:27Graph

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ

Wa na'matin kaanoo feehaa faakiheen

And comfort wherein they were amused.

اور آرام کی چیزیں جن میں عیش کیا کرتے تھے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

and the bounty the comforts in which they rejoiced! in which they lived luxuriously.

44:28Graph

كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ

Kazaalika wa awrasnaahaa qawman aakhareen

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people.

اسی طرح (ہوا) اور ہم نے دوسرے لوگوں کو ان چیزوں کا مالک بنا دیا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So it was kadhālika is the predicate of a subject that is missing such as ‘the matter was so’ and We made these an inheritance that is to say their riches for another people namely the Children of Israel.

44:29Graph

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ

Famaa bakat 'alaihimus samaaa'u wal ardu wa maa kaanoo munzareen

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved.

پھر ان پر نہ تو آسمان کو اور زمین کو رونا آیا اور نہ ان کو مہلت ہی دی گئی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So neither the heaven nor the earth wept for them — in contrast to the case with believers at the point of whose death weep both their places of prayer on earth and the route by which their deeds ascend the heaven; nor were they reprieved nor were they deferred until they were able to make repentance.

44:30Graph

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ

Wa laqad najjainaa Baneee Israaa'eela minal'azaabil muheen

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

اور ہم نے بنی اسرائیل کو ذلت کے عذاب سے نجات دی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And verily We delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement of having their children slain and their womenfolk taken as servants

44:31Graph

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

Min Fir'awn; innahoo kaana 'aaliyam minal musrifeen

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors.

(یعنی) فرعون سے۔ بےشک وہ سرکش (اور) حد سے نکلا ہوا تھا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

from Pharaoh min Fir‘awna is said to be a substitution for al-‘adhābi on the basis of an implied annexation that is to say min ‘adhābi Fir‘awna; or it is said to be a circumstantial qualifier referring to al-‘adhāb ‘the chastisement’. Truly he was a tyrant of the wanton ones.

44:32Graph

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

Wa laqadikh tarnaahum 'alaa 'ilmin 'alal 'aalameen

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

اور ہم نے بنی اسرائیل کو اہل عالم سے دانستہ منتخب کیا تھا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And verily We chose them that is the Children of Israel with a knowledge that We had of their state over all the worlds that is the worlds of their time those of the rational beings.

44:33Graph

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ

Wa aatainaahum minal aayaati maa feehi balaaa'um mubeen

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial.

اور ان کو ایسی نشانیاں دی تھیں جن میں صریح آزمائش تھی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And We gave them signs in which there was a manifest trial an obvious grace such as the parting of the sea the sending down of manna and quails and other such signs.

44:34Graph

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ

Inna haaa'ulaaa'i la yaqooloon

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying,

یہ لوگ یہ کہتے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Indeed these ones that is the Meccan disbelievers say

44:35Graph

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ

In hiya illaa mawtatunal oolaa wa maa nahnu bimun shareen

"There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.

کہ ہمیں صرف پہلی دفعہ (یعنی ایک بار) مرنا ہے اور (پھر) اُٹھنا نہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

‘It that death after which there is life is nothing more than our first death that is when they were sperm-drops and we shall not be resurrected we shall not be raised alive after the second one.

44:36Graph

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Faatoo bi aabaaa'inaaa inkuntum saadiqeen

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."

پس اگر تم سچے ہو تو ہمارے باپ دادا کو (زندہ کر) لاؤ

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Bring us then our fathers alive if you are being truthful’ about our being resurrected after we have died that is to say that we will be given life again.

44:37Graph

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ

Ahum khayrun am qawmu Tubba'inw wallazeena min qablihim; ahlaknaahum innahum kaanoo mujrimeen

Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.

بھلا یہ اچھے ہیں یا تُبّع کی قوم اور وہ لوگ جو تم سے پہلے ہوچکے ہیں۔ ہم نے ان (سب) کو ہلاک کردیا۔ بےشک وہ گنہگار تھے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

God exalted be He says Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ — he was a prophet or a righteous man — and those communities before them? We destroyed because of their disbelief. In other words they are not mightier than those and yet they were destroyed; indeed they were criminals.

44:38Graph

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ

Wa maa khalaqnas samaawaati wal arda wa maa baina humaa laa'ibeen

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play.

اور ہم نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو اور جو کچھ ان میں ہے ان کو کھیلتے ہوئے نہیں بنایا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them intending to play by creating all that lā‘ibīna ‘to play’ is a circumstantial qualifier.

44:39Graph

مَا خَلَقْنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Maa khalaqnaahumaaa illaa bilhaqqi wa laakinna aksarahum laa ya'lamoon

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

ان کو ہم نے تدبیر سے پیدا کیا ہے لیکن اکثر لوگ نہیں جانتے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

We did not create them and all that is between them except with the truth that is to say We created them rightfully so that one might infer thereby Our power and Our Oneness and other matters; but most of them that is the Meccan disbelievers do not know.

44:40Graph

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Inna yawmal fasli meeqaatuhum ajma'een

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all -

کچھ شک نہیں کہ فیصلے کا دن ان سب (کے اُٹھنے) کا وقت ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Assuredly the Day of Decision the Day of Resurrection in which God will decide between servants will be the tryst for all of them for everlasting chastisement;

44:41Graph

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

Yawma laa yughnee mawlan 'am mawlan shai'anw wa laa hum yunsaroon

The Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped -

جس دن کوئی دوست کسی دوست کے کچھ کام نہ آئے گا اور نہ ان کو مدد ملے گی

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

the day when a friend will not avail a friend on account of kinship or friendship that is to say the day when he will not be able to ward off from the other anything of the chastisement nor will they be helped — nor will they be protected from it yawma ‘the day’ is a substitution for yawma’l-fasl ‘the Day of Decision’

44:42Graph

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Illaa mar rahimal laah' innahoo huwal 'azeezur raheem

Except those [believers] on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

مگر جس پر خدا مہربانی کرے۔ وہ تو غالب اور مہربان ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

except for him on whom God has mercy — and these are the believers for they will intercede for one another with God’s permission. He is indeed the Mighty the Victor in His retribution of the disbelievers the Merciful to believers.

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

Inna shajarataz zaqqoom

Indeed, the tree of zaqqum

بلاشبہ تھوہر کا درخت

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Lo! the tree of Zaqqūm one of the vilest of the bitter trees of the Tihāma region God exalted be He will make it grow forth in the Hell-fire

44:44Graph

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ

Ta'aamul aseem

Is food for the sinful.

گنہگار کا کھانا ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

will be the food of the sinful Abū Jahl and his companions the gravest of sinners.

44:45Graph

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ

Kalmuhli yaghlee filbutoon

Like murky oil, it boils within bellies

جیسے پگھلا ہوا تانبا۔ پیٹوں میں (اس طرح) کھولے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Like molten copper that is to say like the dregs of black oil ka’l-muhli is the second predicate it will boil inside the bellies if read taghlī then it is a third predicate; if yaghlī then it is a circumstantial qualifier referring to al-muhl ‘molten copper’

44:46Graph

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

Kaghalyil hameem

Like the boiling of scalding water.

جس طرح گرم پانی کھولتا ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

as the boiling of boiling water hamīm means water of the most extreme temperature.

44:47Graph

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Khuzoohu fa'tiloohu ilaa sawaaa'il Jaheem

[It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,

(حکم دیا جائے گا کہ) اس کو پکڑ لو اور کھینچتے ہوئے دوزخ کے بیچوں بیچ لے جاؤ

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

‘Seize him it will be said to the Zabāniya the Guards of Hell ‘seize the sinner’ and drag him read fa‘tilūhu or fa‘tulūhu haul him away violently and brutally to the midst of Hell-fire al-jahīm means the centre of the Fire.

44:48Graph

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

Summa subboo fawqa raasihee min 'azaabil hameem

Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."

پھر اس کے سر پر کھولتا ہوا پانی انڈیل دو (کہ عذاب پر) عذاب (ہو)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Then pour over his head the torture of boiling water!’ that is to say the boiling water which is ever-torturous this use of ‘the torture of boiling water’ is rhetorically more intense than what is stated by the verse boiling water will be poured over their heads Q. 2219.

44:49Graph

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ

Zuq innaka antal 'azeezul kareem

[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!

(اب) مزہ چکھ۔ تو بڑی عزت والا (اور) سردار ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And it will be said to him ‘Taste! that is taste the chastisement. Indeed you are the mighty the noble one! as you claimed when you used to say ‘There is nothing between its two mountains sc. Mecca that is mightier or nobler than me!’

44:50Graph

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ

Inna haazaa maa kuntum bihee tamtaroon

Indeed, this is what you used to dispute."

یہ وہی (دوزخ) ہے جس میں تم لوگ شک کیا کرتے تھے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

And it will be said to them This that you see of the chastisement is indeed that which you used to doubt’ about which you used to be uncertain.

44:51Graph

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ

Innal muttaqeena fee maqaamin ameen

Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place;

بےشک پرہیزگار لوگ امن کے مقام میں ہوں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Assuredly the God-fearing will be in a secure place a seat in which there will be security from all fear

44:52Graph

فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Fee jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

Within gardens and springs,

(یعنی) باغوں اور چشموں میں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

amid gardens orchards and springs

44:53Graph

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ

Yalbasoona min sundusinw wa istbraqim mutaqaabileen

Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.

حریر کا باریک اور دبیز لباس پہن کر ایک دوسرے کے سامنے بیٹھے ہوں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

dressed in fine silk and heavy silk brocade that is to say in fine and thick silks sundusin wa’stabraqin respectively sitting face to face mutaqābilīna is a circumstantial qualifier that is to say they do not look upon each other backs since the couches revolve with them in them.

44:54Graph

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ

Kazaalika wa zawwajnaahum bihoorin 'een

Thus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.

اس طرح (کا حال ہوگا) اور ہم بڑی بڑی آنکھوں والی سفید رنگ کی عورتوں سے ان کے جوڑے لگائیں گے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So shall it be an implied al-amru ‘the matter’ should be read as preceding this; and We shall pair them either in conjugality or meaning We shall join them with houris of beautiful eyes women of the fairest complexion with wide and beautiful eyes.

44:55Graph

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ

Yad'oona feehaa bikulli faakihatin aamineen

They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit - safe and secure.

وہاں خاطر جمع سے ہر قسم کے میوے منگوائیں گے (اور کھائیں گے)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

They will call they will request from servants therein that is in Paradise to bring every fruit thereof remaining secure in their knowledge that it will not come to an end or cause harm and secure from all danger āminīna ‘secure’ is a circumstantial qualifier’.

44:56Graph

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Laa yazooqoona feehal mawtaa illal mawtatal oolaa wa qaqaahum 'azaabal jaheem

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

(اور) پہلی دفعہ کے مرنے کے سوا (کہ مرچکے تھے) موت کا مزہ نہیں چکھیں گے۔ اور خدا ان کو دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچا لے گا

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

They will not taste death therein other than the first death namely the one that came in this world after they had lived in it some scholars think that illā ‘other than’ here means ba‘da ‘after’. And He will shield them from the chastisement of Hell-fire —

44:57Graph

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Fadlam mir rabbik; zaalika huwal fawzul 'azeem

As bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment.

یہ تمہارے پروردگار کا فضل ہے۔ یہی تو بڑی کامیابی ہے

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

a bounty from your Lord fadlan is a verbal noun with the sense of tafaddulan and is in the accusative dependent status because of an implied preceding tafaddala. That is the supreme triumph.

44:58Graph

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Fa innamaa yassarnaahu bilisaanika la'allahum yatazakkaroon

And indeed, We have eased the Qur'an in your tongue that they might be reminded.

ہم نے اس (قرآن) کو تمہاری زبان میں آسان کردیا ہے تاکہ یہ لوگ نصیحت پکڑیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

For We have made it easy We have facilitated the Qur’ān in your tongue in your language so that the Arabs may understand it from you that perhaps they may remember that perhaps they may be admonished and become believers — but they do not believe.

44:59Graph

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ

Fartaqib innahum murta qiboon

So watch, [O Muhammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end].

پس تم بھی انتظار کرو یہ بھی انتظار کر رہے ہیں

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

So be on the look out await their destruction. Indeed they too are on the look out for your death — this was before the revelation of the command to struggle against them.
