زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ وَٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
Zuyyina lillazeena kafarul hayaatud dunyaa wa yaskharoona minal lazeena aamanoo; wallazeenat taqaw fawqahum yawmal Qiyaamah; wallaahu yarzuqu mai yashaaa'u bighairi hisaab;
Beautified for those who disbelieve is the life of this world, and they ridicule those who believe. But those who fear Allah are above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah gives provision to whom He wills without account.

Those who criticize the contributors among the believers concerning [their] charities and [criticize] the ones who find nothing [to spend] except their effort, so they ridicule them - Allah will ridicule them, and they will have a painful punishment.

They said, "O Shu'ayb, we do not understand much of what you say, and indeed, we consider you among us as weak. And if not for your family, we would have stoned you [to death]; and you are not to us one respected."
اُنہوں نے کہا کہ شعیب تمہاری بہت سی باتیں ہماری سمجھ میں نہیں آتیں اور ہم دیکھتے ہیں کہ تم ہم میں کمزور بھی ہو اور اگر تمہارے بھائی نہ ہوتے تو ہم تم کو سنگسار کر دیتے اور تم ہم پر (کسی طرح بھی) غالب نہیں ہو

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: After having given this good counsel to them, he warned them of the punishment of Allah Ta` ala. He said:
وَيَا قَوْمِ لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِي أَن يُصِيبَكُم مِّثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَالِحٍ ۚ وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِّنكُم بِبَعِيدٍ

Tafsir al-Jalalayn: They said in proclamation of their lack of concern ‘O Shu‘ayb we do not understand much of what you say. Truly we see you are weak abject among us and were it not for your clan we would have stoned you; for you are not too powerful too venerable for us’ to stone but it is your clan that is powerful.

They said,
يشُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ
(O Shu`ayb! We do not understand) This means that we do not comprehend.

وَإِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا

Qaalooo anu'minu laka wattaba 'akal arzaloon
They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"

Tafsir al-Jalalayn: They said ‘Shall we believe in you in your words when it is the lowliest people who follow you?’ wa’ttaba‘aka a variant reading has wa-atbā‘uka ‘when your followers’ plural of tābi‘ ‘follower’ as a subject the riffraff such as the weavers and the shoemakers.

They said: "We do not believe in you, and we will not follow you and become equal to the meanest of the people, who follow you and believe in you, and they are the lowest among us."
قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ الاٌّرْذَلُونَ - قَالَ وَمَا عِ...
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
Wa minan naasi mai-yashtaree lahuwal hadeesi li yudilla 'an sabeelil laahi bighairi 'ilminw wa yattakhizahaa huzuwaa; ulaaa'ika lahum 'azaabum muheen
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
