Spending in Charity

إِنْفَاق

Spending in Charity, known as *Infaq* in Arabic, is a cherished principle in Islam, encouraging believers to give from their wealth in the way of Allah. It is not merely a financial transaction but a profound act of worship and a testament to one's faith, signifying gratitude and trust in divine provision. The Quran frequently associates *Infaq* with the core practices of a believer, stating that those who [believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them] are truly guided. This theme is echoed, highlighting how [from what We have provided them, they spend]. True *Infaq* stems from a sincere heart, seeking Allah's pleasure, as the Quran warns that spending [willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you] if the intention is lacking. Rather than seeing it as a burden, believers understand *Infaq* as a blessed opportunity, a [means of nearness to Allah and of obtaining invocations of the Messenger]. Through conscious giving, whether in ease or hardship, individuals express gratitude for Allah's bounties and strive for His immense mercy and reward, enriching both their own lives and the broader community.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: In the second verse (98) too, yet another aspect of the condition of these very Bedouins has been described as: ` those who take what they spend (in Zakah etc.) as a penalty.' But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they spend as means of nearness to Allah and of [obtaining] invocations of the Messenger. Unquestionably, it is a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Commentary

Ma'arif-ul-Quran: After having described the state of affairs prevailing among hypocrites of distant deserts, it was considered appropriate that the true and staunch Muslims from among the same stock of Bedouins should also be mentioned.
