The City That Was Committing Wicked Deeds

الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ الْخَبَائِثَ

The phrase "The City That Was Committing Wicked Deeds" (الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ الْخَبَائِثَ) refers to the community to whom Prophet Lut (Lot) was sent. This unnamed city, understood by scholars to be Sodom and Gomorrah, serves as a profound cautionary tale in the Quran, highlighting the consequences of severe moral corruption and defiance against God's commands. Prophet Lut tirelessly called his people to abandon their practices, warning them of divine retribution, but [they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient]. Despite Lut's persistent pleas, the inhabitants of this city rejected his message and persisted in their abominable deeds. Consequently, a terrible punishment befell them, as God's decree came to pass, destroying the city and its people. The Quran describes how [We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay]. This destruction is not merely a historical account but is presented as [a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason], reminding humanity across all ages about the importance of upright conduct, obedience to God, and the severe repercussions of persistent wickedness and transgression.

Quran 4 verses

فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ

Faja'alnaa 'aaliyahaa saafilahaa wa amtamaa 'alaihim hijaaratam min sjijjeel

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

اور ہم نے اس شہر کو (الٹ کر) نیچے اوپر کردیا۔ اور ان پر کھنگر کی پتھریاں برسائیں
