Covenant of the Prophets

The Covenant of the Prophets (مِيثَاقُ النَّبِيِّينَ) represents a profound and unifying concept within Islam, illuminating the shared mission of all divine messengers. It refers to the solemn pledge Allah took from every prophet, promising to believe in and support any future messenger who would come [confirming what is with them]. This divine agreement, described in the Quran, binds the entire chain of prophethood, establishing a continuous thread of guidance from the Divine. This sacred promise emphasizes that all prophets, from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all), delivered essentially the same core message of monotheism and submission to Allah. The Quran recounts this moment when Allah said, [“Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?” They said, “We have acknowledged it.”], highlighting their unanimous acceptance. It serves as a testament to the interconnectedness of their missions and the ultimate truth of Islam, which confirms and completes earlier revelations. Indeed, Allah took [a solemn covenant from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, the son of Mary, and from Prophet Muhammad], underscoring its gravity and universal application across time and different communities. This covenant beautifully illustrates the consistent nature of divine communication and the solidarity among Allah's chosen guides for humanity.

Quran 2 verses

Wa iz akhazal laahu meesaaqan Nabiyyeena lamaaa aataitukum min Kitaabinw wa Hikmatin summa jaaa'akum Rasoolum musaddiqul limaa ma'akum latu'minunna bihee wa latansurunnah; qaala 'aaqrartum wa akhaztum alaa zaalikum isree qaalooo aqrarnaa; qaala fashhadoo wa ana ma'akum minash shaahideen

And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."
