Conquest of Makkah

The Conquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah), which occurred in 8 AH (630 CE), stands as a monumental and transformative event in Islamic history. It marked the peaceful return of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Muslim community to their birthplace, Makkah, from which they had been forced to migrate years prior. This triumphant entry, largely bloodless, exemplified the Prophet’s profound mercy and forgiveness, as he granted amnesty to his former persecutors, fulfilling the divine promise of [the victory of Allah and the conquest]. This pivotal moment was not merely a military triumph but a spiritual one, signifying the triumph of truth and justice. The Quran distinctly acknowledges the immense sacrifice and unwavering faith of those who supported the cause of Islam before this event, stating, [Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree]. The Conquest of Makkah ushered in a new era, opening hearts to Islam and solidifying its presence, eventually leading to the widespread acceptance of the faith across the Arabian Peninsula. It remains a powerful symbol of divine assistance, forgiveness, and the eventual triumph of steadfast devotion.

Quran 2 verses

Wa maa lakum allaa tunfiqoo fee sabeelil laahi wa lillaahi meeraasus samaawaati wal-ard; laa yastawee minkum man anfaqa min qablil fat-hi wa qaatal; ulaaaika a'zamu darajatam minal lazeena anfaqoo mim ba'du wa qaataloo; wa kullanw wa'adallaahul husnaa; wallaahu bimaa ta'maloona Khabeer

And why do you not spend in the cause of Allah while to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree than they who spent afterwards and fought. But to all Allah has promised the best [reward]. And Allah, with what you do, is Acquainted.
