بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ
Alam nashrah laka sadrak
Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast?
(اے محمدﷺ) کیا ہم نے تمہارا سینہ کھول نہیں دیا؟ (بےشک کھول دیا)
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Did We not expand an interrogative meant as an affirmative in other words ‘We did indeed expand’ your breast for you O Muhammad (s) by means of prophethood and otherwise
وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ
Wa wa d'ana 'anka wizrak
And We removed from you your burden
اور تم پر سے بوجھ بھی اتار دیا
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and relieve you of your burden
ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ
Allazee anqada zahrak
Which had weighed upon your back
جس نے تمہاری پیٹھ توڑ رکھی تھی
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
that which weighed down your back? — this is similar to where God says that God may forgive you what is past of your sin Q. 482.
وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ
Wa raf 'ana laka zikrak
And raised high for you your repute.
اور تمہارا ذکر بلند کیا
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Did We not exalt your mention? For you are mentioned where I God am mentioned in the call announcing the time for prayer adhān in the second call to perform the prayer iqāma in the witnessing ‘there is no god but God Muhammad is His Messenger’ tashahhud in the Friday sermon and in other instances.
فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
Fa inna ma'al usri yusra
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
ہاں ہاں مشکل کے ساتھ آسانی بھی ہے
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
For truly with hardship comes ease.
إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
Inna ma'al 'usri yusra
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
(اور) بے شک مشکل کے ساتھ آسانی ہے
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Truly with hardship comes ease the Prophet s suffered much hardship at the hands of the disbelievers but then he enjoyed ease when he was assisted to victory by God over them.
فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَٱنصَبْ
Fa iza faragh ta fansab
So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
تو جب فارغ ہوا کرو تو (عبادت میں) محنت کیا کرو
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
So when you are finished from performing prayer toil exert yourself in supplication to God
وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرْغَب
Wa ilaa rabbika far ghab
And to your Lord direct [your] longing.
اور اپنے پروردگار کی طرف متوجہ ہو جایا کرو
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and seek devote yourself humbly to your Lord.
